Barnwell disappointed as Inter-County trials postponed again

The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Inter-County four-day trials was yet again postponed yesterday after recent showers rendered playing venues across the city unplayable, leaving a question mark surrounding the new playing dates.

The match was scheduled to be held at the Everest Sports Club Ground but upon visit to the venue Stabroek Sport was greeted with a soggy outfield and a well soaked pitch. The two-day match was to be contested between two selected teams, one led by West Indies ‘A’ and Guyana middle-order batsman, Leon Johnson and the other by West Indies and Guyana all-rounder Christopher Barnwell.

During an invited comment Barnwell explained that himself along with the other players were disappointed after the match was forced to be abandoned for the second time in the week. He stated that he was looking forward to the trials as it will afford not only him but the other cricketers the opportunity to “showcase their trade while finding favor in the thoughts of the selectors.”

Apart from the possible opportunity to represent Demerara, the all-rounder admitted that when selected, the county team will be seeking to retain their four-day title when the tournament commences.

The new date for the trials are not yet confirmed but will more likely be determined based on the weather and the condition of the grounds.
