Lower East Coast still in the lead

The fifth round of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB)/Raj Singh Insurance Brokers and Trophy Stall Over-40 20 overs-a-side competition has been abandoned after all the playing venues were found to be water-logged from the recent showers.

As a result of the abandonment, points  will be awarded in accordance with the playing conditions and the competition will continue with the sixth round tomorrow.

According a press release from the DCB Lower East Coast Bulls are still at the top of the points table with 18 points followed by West Bank Demerara Mavericks on 15, East Coast Tigers on 13, Lower East Bank Lions on 12, West Bank Demerara Seals on 10, Upper East Bank Colts and Georgetown Bears on seven each and Georgetown Buffaloes on three.

Four points are awarded for a win, two for a tie and one for a no-result. In addition, there are bonus points for outstanding team achievements. The Bulls have the most bonus points with eight after accumulating three in the second round; two points for passing 175 by totaling 191, and one for winning by more than 50 runs.

In the third round they collected another three; one for going past 150 (156/4), and two for winning by six wickets. In the fourth round they gathered two more extra points for passing 175 runs when they scored  189/3 against West Coast Demerara Seals.

The Seals copped four bonus points all coming in the fourth round when they acquired two for passing 175 (190/1) and two for winning by nine-wickets against the Bulls.

The Mavericks also have four bonus points. In the third round they collected two for passing 175 runs (179/9 against the Tigers). And in the fourth round they got another two extra points for winning by six wickets (150/4 against the Bears)

The Tigers are also among the bonus points with three. In the second round they thrashed Seals by 62 runs and collected one bonus point for winning by more than 50 runs and even though they lost to Mavericks in the third round they got a bonus point for passing 150 runs (157/8). In the fourth round they beat Colts by four wickets to get another bonus point.

Two more preliminary rounds remain before the semifinals on November 22.
