Footballer Garnett is new Giftland sports ambassador

Footballer Kwadro Garnett was yesterday crowned ambassador of the second leg of the Giftland Officemax Sports Ambassador search dubbed “The Quest”, after being nominated by his club, Buxton United (FC).

The simple crowning of the new ambassador was held at Giftland’s Water Street location and featured four other nominees including; Stephen King (Georgetown Football Club), Nathaniel King (Georgetown Football Club), Denny Mitchell (Berbice Football Club), Kevin Lane (Berbice Football Club) and the winner Garnett.

According to Giftland Officemax Public Relations Manager Compton Babb, the competition nearing was stiff between Nathaniel King and the eventual winner Garnett who were neck-and- neck with each other in terms of votes.

Votes were casted by means of social networking including; Blackberry Messenger (BBM), Facebook, texting (SMS) and the casting ballots from the store. Garnett was the landslide winner acquiring a little over 1600 of the 3000 plus votes.

Upon his adjudication, Garnett stated that he was pleased to be a part of the “Quest” which enabled him to be a part of the future endeavors of the company.

 

The University of Guyana student also humorously added that he deserved to win after late nights spent convincing friends and family to vote for him. The other nominees maturely lauded the company’s initiative on behalf of their respective playing districts, for hosting such an event which they said targeted the development of the youths and the growth of sports in Guyana.

Meanwhile, Babb said that the company will continued to select sports men and women from across the length and breadth of the country in their aim to assist the growth of sports in Guyana.

The year-long partnership between Garnett and Giftland Officemax will see the youngster receiving a G$300,000 contract which caters to his education, attire and other needs for a year. The other four nominees walked away with respective cash vouchers of G$10,000 for their efforts. The first leg winner of the Quest was bodybuilding champion Devon Davis.
