Albion beats Big Star in U-19 50-over quarterfinal

A match-winning half-century from Kandasammy Surujnarine and a five-wicket haul from Veerapen Permaul guided Albion Community Centre to a 91-run win over Big Star to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Elizabeth Styles Under-19 50-Over Cricket Competition in Berbice.

Surujnarine struck six boundaries in his knock of 53 and found support from Berbice Under-17 all-rounder Balchan Baldeo (33) who took Albion to 161 all out in 29 overs. Bowling for Albion Community Centre, Permaul took 5 for 18 from 9.4 overs, while Berbice Under-15 off-spinner David Latchaya grabbed 3 for 11 and leg-spinner Avinash Wajib 2 for 19 from 5 overs.

In reply, Big Star crumbled for 70 all out in 27.4 overs with David Connelly managing 25. Bowling for Big Star, Mark Tyndall took 3 for 31.

Albion now joins Young Warriors, Blairmont Community Centre and Rose Hall Town Pepsi in the semi-finals of the tournament.
