Horse racing authority discusses disciplinary issues

The Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) will be writing the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC), the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club (NSMTC) because of unpaid affiliation fees for 2013.

This disciplinary action and other topics were discussed during the final meeting for the year of the GHRA on Sunday at the Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC).

According to president of the racing authority, Cecil Kennard, the status of legislation for the sport, the recent demolishing exercise at the Bush Lot United Turf Club, fixtures for racing days for the rest of the year as well as unpaid dues by jockeys and trainers were also discussed.

“We discussed that jockeys and trainers have until the 15th of the December to pay unpaid dues or else they would not be permitted to enter meets for the rest of the year” Kennard told Stabroek Sport yesterday.

The GHRA head also revealed that the PMTC and NSMTC “have not been sending representatives to the past three meetings and that is a matter of concern”.

Kennard also noted that the Annual General Meeting of the GHRA will be held in early January “by which time we will be hoping to know about the status of the legislation from the Minister of Sport.”
