Waramdong focused on lifting K&S trophy

A confident Waramadong outfit arrived in Georgetown yesterday focused on their Chico/Kashif & Shanghai Elite Next Generation Football Tournament quarterfinal matchup against North Georgetown on Saturday and the tournament’s grand finale on New Year’s Day.

The Region Seven school team who were relegated to second place in the Digicel School wide football tournament on three consecutive occasions, is not in the city to sightsee but to win the championship trophy. According to Head Coach, Louis Isaacs, his charges are out for revenge.

“We are focused on lifting that trophy,” Isaacs told Stabroek Sport yesterday at the Wind Jammer Hotel.

“Our team is out for revenge, it has been three years in a row and although we have to face North Georgetown on Saturday, we are looking past them and focused on going to the final and winning, as long as we play to our ability we will win easy on Saturday, ”Isaacs boasted.

Isaacs mentioned that his ball weavers are in supreme condition and are eager to take the field on Saturday to move a step closer to the grand prize. The coach also revealed that his men will hold a practice session today at the Eve Leary ground.

In the feature game of the double header on Saturday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Waramadong will lock horns with the  tournament  favourites. Two hours prior, Charlestown Secondary will tackle Dolphin Secondary.

The under-17 tournament for secondary institutions continues today at the GFC ground from 16:00hrs.

Queen’s College will tackle Annandale Secondary who defeated Uitvlugt 2-1 on Tuesday, while East Ruimveldt will take on St George’s Secondary two hours later.

President’s College was also victorious on Tuesday at the Den Amstel ground, beating Stewartville 3-1.

Up to the semifinals, all school aged children will be admitted free to each game.

The winner of the tournament will pocket a record $1.2M in cash of which 75% will go towards a project identified by the school.

They will also receive a trophy and 25 replicas along with the prize money.

The institutions placing second, third and fourth will each receive prize monies amounting to $750,000, $500,000 and $250,000, in cash respectively.

The second and third place teams will receive trophies and 25 silver and bronze medals respectively, while the fourth place team will receive a trophy.

As customary, the grand finale will be staged on January 1 at the Providence National Stadium.
