Guyana’s best in action in today’s R&R 40mile road race

The cream of the nation’s wheelsmen will once again turn the roadways of West Demerara into their battleground today when Hassan Mohamed continues his cycling calendar.

According to Mohamed, the 23rd edition of the R&R International 40-mile event is set to attract Guyana’s best riders vying for lucrative prizes. The event is billed to pedal off at 08:00hrs from Schoonord to Bushy Park and back.

Last year’s most successful cyclist, Alanzo Greaves is the defending champion of the event. Greaves who won 19 races last year on the local circuit clocked one hour, 41 minutes and 58 seconds to cart off the spoils.

The national cyclist, who is yet to hit top form, will have the likes of national road race champion, Raynauth Jeffrey, the inform Orville Hinds, Raul Leal, Robin Persaud and Geron and Marlon Wiliams and others gunning to unseat him.

Stephen Fernandes (Veterans Open), Leal (Junior) and Naomi Singh (Female) are the defending champions of the other categories.

Former cyclist and Managing Director of the sponsors, R&R International, Jacob Rambarran is scheduled to distribute the prizes to the top performers.

Notes: Sunday’s event will be the fifth for the 2014 season. The fourth organized by Mohamed and second at West Demerara. The first one was staged last Sunday and won by Hinds. (Emmerson Campbell)
