Trinidad among four semi-finalists in first CONCACAF under-15

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands, CMC- Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Haiti and Honduras have qualified for the semi-finals of the inaugural CONCACAF Under-15 Girls’ Championship to take place yesterday.

Trinidad defeated  Bahamas 4-nil,  Haiti edged Jamaica 2-1, Honduras trounced   Cayman Islands 3-2  and  Canada whipped Costa Rica 8-1 in quarter finals matches played on Wednesday.

The young Trinidadians prevailed by a comfortable margin, but were made to wait by the Bahamas until the 20th minute to get on the scoreboard thanks to an Alexis Fortune goal.

A pair of second-half strikes by Adanyo Phillip (39’, 49’) made it 3-0, while Raenah Campbell (52’) added another as the Soca Princesses posted their third shutout in four games.

Haiti mustered an impressive second-half comeback to overcome spirited Jamaica 2-1 and book a ticket to the semifinals.

Brown’s 29th minute goal gave the Jamaicans a 1-0 lead, sending the large crowd of their supporters into a jubilant celebration.

After the break, the Haitians picked up the pace in attack and Lovelie Pierre equalized in the 47th minute.

Three minutes later, Nerilla Mondesir got behind the Jamaica defense to net the game-winner.

Lisbeth Bonilla scored two goals in Honduras’ 3-2 victory over the host Cayman Islands to seal a semifinal place.

Cayman had an opportunity to retake the lead, but a penalty kick went high after star striker Chelsea Green was taken down in the box by goalkeeper Alexandra Padilla.

 

Canada got three goals from Anyssa Ibrahim and secured a semifinal berth with an 8-1 victory Costa Rica.

Ibrahim opened the scoring in the second minute, but the celebration was short-lived as Meredith Calderon leveled the score five minutes later for Costa Rica.

From there, the Canadians went on to score seven unanswered goals.

Trinidad and Tobago will play Canada while Honduras take on Haiti in Friday’s semi-final round.
