Two draws as ECFA Stag Beer second round commences

League leaders Victoria Kings were held to a 1-1 draw by fifth positioned side Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph when the second round of the East Coast Football Association (ECFA) Stag Beer senior league commenced at the Victoria Ground on Sunday.

Aubrey Gibson gave the home side the brief advantage as he found the back of the net through a 36th minute attempt.

The lead would be short-lived as Delroy Dean secured a point for the visitors, stunning the home support with a conversion four minutes later through a penalty kick, following an infraction within the 18 yard box.

20140917PointsIn the opening fixture of the day, sixth positioned outfit Golden Stars FC and newcomers and cellar occupants Sparta United also battled to a one-all stalemate. Randy Stoby gave the Stars the early lead as he broke the deadlock compliments of an 18th minute strike.

However Sparta United would walk away with a share of the spoils as Theon Carr added his name to the scorer’s sheet with a 60th minute conversion. The action is set to continue over the weekend.

On Saturday at the Buxton Community ground, home side Buxton Stars will face off with Sparta United in the lone fixture at 16:00hrs. On Sunday at the Victoria Ground, Buxton United will faceoff with Mahaica Determinators in the opening fixture at 16:00hrs.

In the feature contest, home side Victoria Kings will oppose Ann’s Grove at 18:00hrs.
