MovieTowne gets $10M upgrade

(Trinidad Express) Cineplex chain MovieTowne has started a $10 million upgrade to the latest, state of the art 2D and 3D digital cinema technology at its three locations in Port of Spain, Chaguanas and Tobago.

In a statement the cinema chain said the upgrade was a clear signal of continued commitment to satisfy their customers’ entertainment appetites, by keeping their business in the forefront of technology, innovations and global cinema trends.

It said that over the last few years, a massive transformation has been in motion with a new wave of modern cinema, where the traditional 35mm film technology is being phased out by Hollywood and replaced by new digital cinema innovations around the globe.

The digital upgrade of 22 screens is expected to be completed by the end of this month in all branches of the MovieTowne chain.

MovieTowne chairman Derek Chin said in the statement, “These are exciting times for cinema with new innovations and great stories being unveiled on big screens all around the world each year. MovieTowne is committed to contributing to the development of our country by investing and diversifying to bring more world-class entertainment choices to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”

He did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment on if the new upgrade would mean higher ticket prices for movies.

MovieTowne is also completing two new cineplex facilities in San Fernando and Guyana.
