Matron at one Linden Hospital Complex, explained that the equipment would be very useful. The complex consists of three hospitals: the Kwakwani Hospital, Upper-Demerara Hospital, and the Mackenzie Hospital.

“Over the year there has been wear and tear so we’re happy for these to add to our supplies.” Christopher said.

Besides the Linden Hospital Complex in Region 10, the Berbice Regional Health Authority in Region 6, the Regional Health Office in Region 4, and the West Demerara Regional Hospital in Region 3 also received donations from Food for the Poor.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Shamdeo Persaud emphasised the benefit the equipment will make to the health sector of Guyana, especially in the areas of maternal and child health. According to Persaud, the Ministry of Health is consistently working on reducing the child mortality rate of Guyana.

Persaud added that all the items received have met quality protocols and are in sync with the facilities’ requirements.

Kent Vincent, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc., revealed that the items had been sourced from the organisation’s donors in Florida.

Much of the equipment, he said, is brand new.

Donated items included aspirators, birthing beds, gurneys, and hospital beds.
