A Barbadian man is now in prison after he was refused bail in a city court on a charge that he wounded a minibus driver after an accident.
Mike Clarke, who is staying at a hotel at Lot 2 Norton and Camp streets, denied the police’s allegation that he stabbed Shawn McAllister, on February 15, at Croal Street Georgetown, during the altercation that followed the accident.
It was Clarke, according to attorney Adrian Thompson, who was hit by McAllister in the accident.
And while Thompson told that court that his client was not armed with a knife, he did admit that McAllister was somehow injured. Thompson requested bail on the grounds that his client would lodge his passport with the court. However, Police Prosecutor Michael Grant strongly objected, stating that Clarke is a flight risk and that he is staying at a hotel. Grant added that the victim is still hospitalised.
Clarke was subsequently remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, until the case is called again on February 20, in the Georgetown Magistrates’’ Court One.
