Onderneeming man bled to death, autopsy finds

Dennis Harris, who succumbed at the West Demerara Regional Hospital after cutting one of his wrists in a drunken rage while trying to force his way into his house last week, died of severe haemorrhaging caused by a punctured vein, an autopsy has found.

His common-law wife, Yonette Gumbs of Lot 1525 Onderneeming, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara was released from police custody on Monday after the autopsy was performed on Harris’ body at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Gumbs told Stabroek News that she was glad everything was over but was sorry how everything ended. She said she was a victim of abuse for years but never had the courage to leave. “I put up with it for years,” she said.

Gumbs’ daughter Sabrina Wray, said Harris was trying to get into the house after her mother put him out and locked the doors. Wray said he threatened her mother with a pair of scissors by waving it in her face.

Wray also said that when Harris was rushed to the regional hospital he kept saying that “Yonette and she children did this to me.”  The couple was together for seven years.
