Contracts cleared for consultancies on teaching of math, science

Presidential Advisor on Governance Gail Teixeira announced that Cabinet has offered no objections to 10 contracts in the education and housing and water sectors, at a post-Cabinet media briefing on Friday.

Three contracts valued US$100,000 each were green-lighted in the Education Sector, Teixeira said, according to a report from the Government Information Agency. These are for a consultancy service for improving the teaching of Mathematics under the Guyana Improvement Teachers Education Project (GITEP); a consultancy for improving the teaching of Science and one for improving the teaching of Reading and Writing in early grades and reading for understanding and critical thinking.

In the Housing and Water sector no objections were offered for  several road upgrades, including one valued  $500M for  Region Three, Lots 1-7; and one valued $313M for Region Four: Lots 1-4 including roads Eccles, Mon Repos, Good Hope and Section ‘D’ Non Pariel.

A tender for $99M was also given the go-ahead for road upgrades at Number 77 Village, Corentyne, Region Six; $78, 760,770 for upgrades at Block ‘D’ West Coast Berbice, Region Five; and  $56,041,788 for upgrades at Charity Essequibo, Region Two.

In addition, no objections were offered for a tender valued $56, 502, 001 for the rehabilitation of community roads at DD Main Access First Street, Mon Repos South and Bus shed road, Haslington, Mon Repos/Reconnaissance and Haslington/Grove NDC.

A tender valued $27, 753, 134 was also green-lighted for the rehabilitation of Campbell Avenue and Back Street Number 2 at Golden Grove/Diamond Place NDC (under the Community Road Improvement Project).
