Miner on seven charges after dispute with neighbour

A miner is now a remanded prisoner after being arraigned on seven charges yesterday, including assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

The charges against Orlando Grumble, 39, of 207 Alexander Street, Lacytown, stemmed from a dispute with his neighbour when he appeared at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Courts.

Grumble denied that he, on March 13, at Alexander Street, resisting and assaulting Constable Hodge, who attempted to apprehend him.  He denied too that he, on March 13, at Regent Street, used indecent language on Police Woman Constable Shepherd. He further denied that on March 13,

at Regent Street, he verbally abused Karen Bender and threatened and assaulted her. And, he denied that he, on February 19, at Charlotte Street, verbally abused Karen Bender.

The unrepresented Grumble told the court that Bender was the one who issued a threat. He said she called his mother’s home and threatened to burn it down.

Cadet Officer Collin Primus, who presented the prosecution’s case, objected to bail and declared that Grumble was not a law abiding citizen.

He mentioned the possibility of Grumble tampering with the witness, while noting that Bender had a restraining order against Grumble that was disobeyed by the man.

Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond subsequently ruled that Grumble be remanded to prison until the case is called again on March 25. She explained that she took the decision because he breached the protection order granted to Bender.
