Cop granted bail on forgery charge

Juliana Nicholas, a serving member of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) for 13 years, was yesterday released on bail after she denied that she uttered a forged document to gain credit from the Police Consumers’ Society.

The 36-year-old woman was accused of uttering the document with a forged signature of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Salena Marshall to the Police Consumer Cooperative Society Limited between October 1 and October 3, 2013. The document was allegedly uttered to Sergeant Shelly Cole Douglas with the intent to defraud.

The woman pleaded not guilty when given the chance to do so by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Attorney-at-law Patrice Henry asked for reasonable bail for his client and

Prosecutor Michael Grant raised no objections to bail.

Bail was set at $60,000 and Nicholas was ordered to return to court on April 13 for statements.
