Opposition votes down health sector line item that included specialty hospital

The joint opposition today rejected $1.3 billion proposed capital expenditure in the 2014 budget under ‘Health’ for Regional and Clinical Services, stating that the sum included the speciality hospital.

When the matter was taken to a vote in the Committee of Supply it was voted down 33 to 32.

Opposition members said they had no choice as their proposed discussion with the governement on the line item was refused.

“It is the intention of the opposition to not support… We are open to see if a consensus is arrived on but if not we are only too willing to go ahead,” said APNU’s Chief Whip Amna Ally.
