Spectacles handed out at Bath Settlement

Over 100 persons received free eye testing and spectacles when the Lions Club of West Berbice (LCWB) held an outreach at Bath Settlement last Saturday.

President of the Club, Eric Leo told Stabroek News that the exercise was a collaborative effort with the New Amsterdam Lions Club.

He said some of the members of that club have “all the expertise; they have been trained to conduct testing and dispensing spectacles and so on…”

Treasurer of the LCWB, Harrinarine Baldeo said the clinic was part of the club’s responsibility to provide services in keeping with the Lions Club policy internationally.

He said too, “It is our motto to serve, especially the poor and needy and we are pleased with the response.”

Some of the recipients told this newspaper that they were very thankful that the club had organized the clinic.

They were also satisfied with their free spectacles and said “if we had to go to a specialist we woulda had to pay over $50,000.”

Baldeo said the club is also engaged in assisting in other projects including distribution of wheelchairs and clothing.
