Two remanded on robbery charges

Two men were remanded to prison on Tuesday after they denied committing separate robberies.

Sean Davis and Leon Vieira appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan accused of acting with unknown persons in the commission of the robberies.

According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, Davis, 43, in the company of unknown others, stole a gold chain valued at $150,000 from Annalisa Ross on April 16.

Davis was also charged with committing an armed robbery with unknown others, in which Roopchand Maraj was relieved of a gold chain valued at $300,000 on March 6.

Davis, who is a vendor and lives at Charlotte Street, was not granted bail after Jones objected, on the grounds that Davis has matters of a similar nature in three other courts. His case was adjourned until May 8.

Meanwhile, Jones told the magistrate that Vieira, 29, of Hogg Street, Albouystown, in the company of unknown others, robbed Martin Lucas of a wristwatch worth $60,000 on April 17.

Vieira, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, asked the magistrate for an early date for the trial. He will return to court on May 9.

It was related to the court that the items stolen in both cases were not recovered.
