Lima Sands labourers charged with assault after rum shop brawl

Two labourers of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast were jointly charged on Tuesday at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court with assault.

The court heard that on April 10 at Lima Sands, Ravi Elickram and Wendell McDonald unlawfully assaulted Anthony Shivlall causing him actual bodily harm. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge and were not represented.

According to police facts, on the day in question, the men were at rum shop in Lima drinking when an argument ensued. They then had a scramble and an exchange of blows.

Shivlall fell down and was reportedly beaten by McDonald and Elickram. He sustained injuries about his body and lost two of his teeth.

The matter was reported to the police and the defendants were later arrested and charged. Elickram was granted bail in the sum of $80,000 and McDonald $60,000.

They are both expected to appear before Magistrate Sunil Scarce on May 20 when trial will commence.
