Inmate critically hurt in altercation at NA prison

An altercation between two inmates at the New Amsterdam Prisons has left one critically injured after he was stabbed with an ice pick yesterday afternoon.

Brian Hescott, 25, of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara reportedly suffered a damaged lung and has been admitted a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Reports are that during the scuffle, Hescott stabbed his alleged attacker, Derrick Callendar of James Street, Albouystown to his hand.

This newspaper was told that in a bid to “defend himself,” Callender reportedly pushed Hescott into a door, causing him to fall in the process. It was at this point that Hescott suffered the injuries.

Hescott is serving 54 months imprisonment for robbery under arms while Callender has been convicted of murder.
