Pensioner claims self defence on stabbing charge

A pensioner, accused of stabbing another man during a heated argument over “sexual activities,” was placed on bail after explaining that he had gotten violent after being attacked himself.

Seeraj Sookraj, a security guard from Agricola, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and admitted that he had, on May 1, in Georgetown, maliciously wounded Stanley Persaud.

According to Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, on the date in question at about 16:45 hrs, the men had been drinking some beers at a stand on Brickdam and Cornhill Streets when an argument ensued over sexual activities. The accused, Mangru said, became annoyed, pulled out a knife and dealt Persaud a stab to the chest area.
