North Ruimveldt man gets bail on stabbing charge

Nineteen-year-old Kelston Richards was yesterday granted $100,000 bail after he denied stabbing another man.

Richards of 101 North Ruimveldt denied that he unlawfully wounded Kevin Barker on May 19.

According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the two are not known to each other but Barker was the friend of someone known to Richards. On the date in question, Barker and his friend had been walking along Sheriff Street when they passed Richard’s workplace.

Richards allegedly called out to the man known to him and hurled a number of insults. He subsequently approached the men and began to “juk” Barker with a scissors, Jones said.

Jones raised no objections to bail but asked that it be set in a substantial amount. Richards was granted $100,000 bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan while his matter was transferred to the Chief Magistrate’s courtroom for May 28.
