Police in bid to ease East Bank traffic woes

In an effort to ease the traffic build up during peak hours along the East Bank of Demerara, with effect from tomorrow Tuesday May 27, 2014, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) says it will be putting into effect a three-lane system between the Demerara Harbour Bridge and the Houston Access Road from 0700h. to 0900h. in the morning and from 1600h. to 1800h. in the afternoon on Monday to Friday of the week.

A release from the GPF said that during the morning period of 0700h. to 0900h. in addition to the two lanes on the western carriageway, the western lane of the eastern carriageway will also be used to accommodate motor vehicles travelling north into Georgetown.

During the afternoon period of 1600h. to 1800h. in addition to the two lanes on the eastern carriageway, the eastern lane of the western carriageway will also be used to accommodate motor vehicles travelling south along the East Bank of Demerara highway.

Motorists are requested to cooperate with the police ranks who will be directing traffic during the two stated peak periods, the police said.
