President attributes weight loss to healthy eating, exercise

President Donald Ramotar yesterday explained that his noticeable weight loss was a consequence of making healthy eating choices in order to ease the strain on his knee from an old injury.

“I have just decided to cut back on quantities of foods, eating smaller quantities more regularly and cut out fatty foods as far as possible… I had an old injury on the right knee and it was acting up, so I thought that also losing the weight will help that a great deal,” the President said.

There has been a visible change in Ramotar’s weight over the last two months.

A smiling Ramotar seemed more confident with his new size and was pleased to share his tips on how he is battling the bulge.

The 63-year-old Presi-dent pointed out that contrary to public belief that his weight loss was for medical reasons, it was a personal decision to make positive lifestyle changes to boost his health.

“It’s not doctor or#dered; more like wife supported,” a smiling Ramotar told Stabroek News.

First Lady Delotchmee Ramotar had from the beginning of her husband’s tenure as President expressed concern about him being too busy executing his duties and neglecting to eat on time and at home.

She had told Stabroek News last year that while there are kitchen staff attached to State House she still cooks meals for her husband but was concerned that sometimes meetings and travel would see him stray off the path of sticking to a scheduled meal plan.

The President said that that he makes a conscious decision now to not give in to his “sweet tooth” cravings and has replaced sweet foods with a lot of steamed vegetables.

He also actively works out and has been getting much support from his gym.

Ramotar reflected that growing up and through his early adult life he had always been very active and health conscious but as he got older, he tended to lapse and as such had packed on the pounds.
