‘Interruption’ expected as new sewerage system operationalised

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is advising the public that there will be a temporary interruption of its system today while the company decommissions its old sewer mains to facilitate the activation of the new sewerage system. The decommissioning exercise will be followed by the activation of the rehabilitated Force and Delivery Mains as well as 24 refurbished sewer pump stations, GWI said in a press release.

The new system was recently rehabilitated under the Guyana Government/IDB US$10M Georgetown Sanitation Improvement Programme. GWI anticipates a successful transition to the rehabilitated system and assures customers that every effort is being taken to minimize any inconvenience the interruption may cause.

Customers with concerns are asked to contact GWI’s sanitation hotline at telephone numbers 227-8718 and 226-6059 weekdays from 8am to 5pm.
