Pastry salesman charged with stealing children’s shoes

A pastry salesman was on Tuesday released on bail after denying he stole a suitcase of children‘s shoes.

Ronald Samuels, also known as Gary Grant, 35, stands accused of stealing the suitcase, valued $10, 000, containing the shoes, which were worth $140,000, on June 6 at the Stabroek Market. The stolen articles belonged to Gilbert Daley.

Although not objecting to bail for Samuels, prosecutor Corporal James Garnett asked Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond to consider the gravity of the charge as it would warrant substantial bail.

Bail was subsequently set at $100,000.

Also arraigned in the city court was mother of nine Sharon Sinclair, who was accused of receiving six pairs of the stolen shoes from Samuels, knowing that they were stolen.

Sinclair, of 2366 Parfaite Harmonie, denied any involvement in the theft. She was subsequently granted $20, 000 bail.

Both Samuels and Sinclair are set to return on June 30 for trial.
