The man stated that Pitamber started to put up a fight but was unable to protect himself when one of the men started to “juk” him. The man added that no one went to his rescue because the area was a “hot place” for robbery and people were afraid.

Other residents in the neighbourhood refused to speak.

When Stabroek News visited his home last night, a group of relatives were sitting outside of the yard, waiting on news from the police. Pitamber’s mother said she was at home when one of his friends came to her house and told her “your son get killed”.

She said he had left home earlier that day to collect money for a bird that he sold for $45000. It was on his way back home he was killed. “He was my eldest son…look he just get a child, she is barely six months old,” the woman wept.

“When I see my son I reach him dead,” she said, recalling the numbers of wounds about his body. “He had to fight back because there was marks on his hands,” she said, adding that two nights before he was confronted by two men who wanted to rob him but “instead asked him if he got a beer money”.

Pitamber’s aunt Radha lamented that he was a quiet young man, who went his way straight and never troubled anyone. “If only he de ride on the main road and not on that road. Look how far he had to come home and they brackle he and kill he,” she cried.

“I can’t understand why people didn’t come out and help him. Didn’t they see what was happening? Didn’t they hear the noise? Why man why!” she lamented.
