Ruimveldt man remanded on armed robbery charge

After being charged with committing a gunpoint robbery, Ruimveldt resident Shaka McKenzie was yesterday remanded to prison.

McKenzie, a mason by profession from Riverview Ruimveldt, appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge of armed robbery. According to the charge, on the May 25, in Ruimveldt, McKenzie robbed Rishi Ramdani of a silver band, a BlackBerry cellular phone and cash totalling $100,000.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail based on the prevalence of the crime as well as its gravity. He also said the stolen items have not yet been recovered.

As a result, McKenzie was refused bail and remanded to prison until July 14.
