Guard jailed for threatening wife, beating teen son

Security guard Mark Singh, 39, has been jailed again, pleading guilty yesterday to threatening to chop his wife and beating his 14-year-old son with a broom.

His wife, Sujata Persaud, told Magistrate Dylon Bess that she wanted her husband to do the time for what he had done to their family and she requested a protection order to ensure the safety of herself and children when Singh returns from jail.

The woman explained that on July 5, at their home at Lot 184 Charlotte Street, Singh chased her out of their bathroom with a cutlass, saying “he tired mind us and he will kill us all one by one.”

He also hit his son about the body with a broom, she added.

According to Prosecutor Simone Payne, who related the police’s case against Singh, he committed the offences after returning to his home drunk.

Singh was subsequently sentenced to six months imprisonment on each of the two charges, which are to run concurrently.

Singh was charged and brought before Magistrate Judy Latchman on similar allegations last year, for which he was sentenced to six months and ordered to undergo counselling to address his behaviour.
