Minibus conductor charged with cursing cop

A minibus conductor accused of cursing a policewoman who attempted to board the bus on which he works was yesterday placed on $5,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan.

Indar Boodoo, 53, pleaded guilty to the July 15, charge which stated that at the Stabroek Market he used abusive language to Shellon Edwards.

In his explanation to the court, Boodoo who was unrepresented by counsel said that he never cursed the woman. He accepted the prosecution’s account that he told the woman not to enter his bus because she does not like to pay.

The 176 Barr Street, Kitty resident however maintained that he never cursed Edwards. He said he knew the woman was a police officer for many years and would never curse her.

After his explanation the court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Relating the facts of the case, Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that the complainant was on her way to work on the day in question when the defendant began cursing her as she attempted to board the bus he conducts.

Jones said Boodoo began cursing in a loud tone telling the woman; “you does ketch people bus and don’t pay.”

After hearing the case Magistrate McLennan placed the defendant on $5,000 bail.

The matter was called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and will continue on July 25.
