Suspect in wife’s killing still at large

Vidol Rawlins who vanished after allegedly fatally stabbing his wife on Friday, is still at large and is being sought by the police for questioning.

Thirty-year-old Candy Rawlins, of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara, was discovered dead by neighbours, after her 11-year-old daughter, who was tied to a chair with her mouth taped, managed to escape and raise an alarm. According to a police press release, Rawlins’ body was found at 08:45h, after her daughter freed herself and informed neighbours.

A neighbour who spoke to Stabroek News on the condition of anonymity, said that she was only alerted to the murder when she saw scores of police officers at the home of the Rawlins. She described Candy as a “quiet person,” and her husband (Vidol Rawlins) as a “friendly man.” Additionally the neighbour said the Rawlins was only seen when she left or returned home. “You don’t even see when she sweeping out she house,” the neighbour said.

Crime Chief Leslie James told this newspaper last evening that the husband, who he said is a person of interest, is still at large.

Rawlins is survived by her daughter.
