Car thief jailed for 3 years

Following a car theft, a South Ruimveldt resident was sentenced to three years imprisonment after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Ijah Bryon, 32, pleaded guilty to the charge of simple larceny before Magistrate Faith McGusty which read that on July 18, on Camp Street, he stole a Toyota motor car worth $2.7 million, property of Annice Phoenix.

According to Prosecutor Seon Blackman, on the said day, Phoenix’s brother parked the car on Camp Street and entered a pharmacy to purchase a quantity of tablets.

However, on exiting the pharmacy, Phoenix’s brother witnessed Byron driving away with the car. He immediately reported the matter to police on patrol. After a chase, Byron was accosted at the corner of Thomas and Lamaha streets, Kitty.
