Tucville man charged in cyclist’s death

A Tucville man was yesterday charged with causing the death of a pedal cyclist due to dangerous driving.

Winston Cramer, 51, of 162 Go Slow Avenue, Tucville pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who granted him his release on $150,000 bail. The charge alleged that Cramer, on April 10, 2014, drove his car PKK 7096 on Camp and Quamina streets in a dangerous manner, thereby causing the death of Lennox Allicock.

According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, on the date in question at about 4pm, Cramer was driving his car proceeding east along the northern side of Quamina Street. As he approached the junction of Quamina and Camp streets, the man allegedly failed to stop and collided with motorcar PNN 3718. As a result of the collision, Cramer’s car spun and struck Allicock, who had been stationary on the eastern side of Quamina Street. Allicock reportedly suffered injuries and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he subsequently died.

Grant further said that two persons, who had been with Allicock at the time, had also suffered injuries.

Attorney Adrian Thompson represented Cramer and requested reasonable bail for the man. Prosecutor Grant raised no objections to bail and it was set in the sum of $150,000.

Cramer will return to court on September 9 for statements.
