Dr Nichole Nedd-Jerrick, Head of the Enmore Polyclinic, recently participated in a public health programme in the US sponsored by the US Embassy here.
The “Public Health Issues in the United States” visit from July 6-25 was part of the US -sponsored International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) exchange and Nedd-Jerrick recently met with Charge d’Affaires at the embassy, Bryan Hunt on her experience.
A release yesterday from the US Embassy said that the doctor highlighted a visit to primary health care facilities including Life Flight Air Ambulance, Family Health Care of Worcester and the Barre Family Health Clinic. She said she was delighted to see the operations firsthand and underscored the value of this experience. As a result of this experience, Nedd-Jerrick said she will seek to improve diabetes care plans at the Enmore Polyclinic, bolster the use of nutrition displays, and intensify monitoring of the use of pesticides in cash crops.
Nedd-Jerrick and her counterparts from fifteen countries visited several cities, including Washington, D.C.; Worcester, Massachusetts; Phoenix, Arizona; and Seattle, Washington. The embassy release said that one of the main objectives of the programme is to promote international cooperation on common health challenges such as chronic and non-communicable diseases such as stroke, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The participants had an opportunity to assess public awareness campaigns about health issues and challenges to health care delivery systems. They also looked at federal, state and local efforts at preventative screening and wellness programmes.
