Stolen pump found at home of burglary accused -court hears

A man was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge that he broke into his boss’ bond and stole a water pump, which was later found at his home.

The allegation against 45-year-old Randolph Nichols is that on July 25, at Mabaruma, North West District, he broke and entered the bond of Dexter Gamell and stole therein one water pump valued $110,000.

Nichols, who said that he is the sole breadwinner of his household, denied the charge when he was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.

He said that he works with the complainant, whom he said was aware that the water pump was being transported to another employee.

The prosecution’s facts, however, stated that the complainant secured his water pump in his bond, on which he placed two padlocks. However, subsequent checks were made and he discovered the pump missing.

A report was then made and after investigations were conducted the police went to Nichols’ home, where the item was found. He was later arrested.

Magistrate Ann McLennan before whom the matter was called, informed Nichols that he would be remanded to prison until August 8, when the case will be called at Court One.
