Canadian busted at airport with cocaine in achar, milk

A Canadian man was yesterday morning busted with cocaine in his suitcase as he was preparing to board a flight at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

Head of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) James Singh confirmed that a quantity of cocaine was found concealed in achar and powdered milk.

Stabroek News was unable to ascertain how much cocaine was found.

An official at the airport said that the 54-year-old Canadian citizen was booked to leave on an early morning Caribbean Airlines fight. He checked in two pieces of luggage and a subsequent search of them by CANU officials unearthed the drugs.

The man remains in custody pending a charge of cocaine trafficking.

Within recent months there have been a number of cocaine busts at the airport. Several of the persons were found with the cocaine concealed in milk powder tins.
