Two doctors injured in West Coast Berbice accident

Several persons, including two doctors attached to the New Amsterdam Hospital were rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital yesterday morning following separate accidents on the West Coast Berbice road.

The doctors, Shevon Thomas of New Amsterdam and Vidyanand Hemraj of No 72 Village, Corentyne were heading to Georgetown in a red Nissan X-Trail vehicle when it collided with a blue pick-up that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Dr. Thomas who reportedly suffered head injuries was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital while Dr. Hemraj was treated for minor injuries and sent away.

Reports are that the driver of the pick-up that belonged to the Ministry of Finance was overtaking a vehicle on the turn when the collision occurred.

Shortly after, passengers aboard a route 63 minibus suffered injuries when a tractor that was heading to the back dam turned suddenly into its path.
