NA man on bail after denying fuel theft

A New Amsterdam man was yesterday accused of stealing over $400,000 in fuel in the North West District

Nkhaomi King, 35, also known as “Bun Up,” of lot 55 New Amsterdam, Berbice, was placed on bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman after he denied the charge against him.

It is alleged that on July 25, at Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, King stole 11 drums of diesel, valued at $440,000 and a drum of gasoline, valued at $30,000, from Ameer Ali. He pleaded not guilty when magistrate read the charge to him.

King’s attorney, Paul Braam, during his application for bail, told the court that King is a father of five and is the sole breadwinner of his family. He further mentioned that his client has no previous record.

Subsequently, the magistrate granted the accused $200,000 bail and adjourned the matter until September 9. The case will be called again in Court One.
