Construction worker remanded over motorbike theft

Construction worker Anthony Peters, accused of stealing a motorcycle, was remanded to prison yesterday after a city court heard that he was caught red-handed by public-spirited citizens as he was pushing the bike away.

Peters, of 108 Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan.

It is alleged that on September 20, 2014, at North Road, Georgetown, Peters stole a motorcycle, valued $380,000, belonging to Edward James.

According to Prosecutor Deniro Jones, Peters was on North Road at the time of the theft when public-spirited citizens spotted him pushing the motorcycle away. Upon the discovery, they apprehended him and he was taken to the police station.

Prosecutor Jones objected to bail and Peters was remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned until October 28.
