Boyfriend charged with murdering Hague woman

Sudesh Lakeram, the man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend at Hague, West Coast Demerara on Sunday, has been charged with her murder.

Lakeram, 29, was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with the murder of Rajkumarie Persaud, 24, which occurred on September 21, at Hague. He was not required to plead when the charge was read to him by Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

According to reports, Lakeram stabbed Persaud several times and left her on the floor of the apartment they shared, before fleeing the scene. He was later hospitalised under police guard after ingesting a poisonous substance.

A post-mortem examination yesterday confirmed that Persaud died as a result of haemorrhaging from multiple incised wounds.
