Man charged with threatening to kill sister

A brother who is accused of threatening to kill his sister was yesterday ordered not to go within 500 yards of her and was additionally bonded to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.

Howard Bobb was placed on $45,000 bail after he denied that on September 22, at the Bourda Market, Georgetown, he used threatening language to Janice Bobb, thereby resulting in a breach of the peace.

Prosecutor Michael Grant told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry that the man told his sister he would kill her. No further details were presented to the court.

When given a chance to speak, Janice Bobb said that her brother is in the habit of tormenting her. She begged the court to order him not to say anything to her.

She added that the man constantly accuses her of “working obeah” and has told her repeatedly that he will kill her.

When asked his address and occupation, Howard, who was unrepresented by counsel, said that he lives at the Tucville Night Shelter and works as a labourer.

After hearing the case, the Chief Magistrate ordered Howard not to go within 500 yards of his sister, not to go to her home nor her place of work and to have nothing to do or say to her. She also bonded him to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter. She sternly warned him that if he breached these conditions, he would be incarcerated.

He was placed on bail and ordered to report to the officer in charge of the Alberttown Police Station every Friday.

The case was adjourned until October 22, when it will be called at Court Ten.
