Skeldon power being restored but blackouts to continue

Operations at the GuySuco-Skeldon facility have been restored following the resolution of the strike, but load shedding will continue, GPL said yesterday.

Functioning of the Co-gen facility has been gradually restored and increasing levels of generating capacity made available to the GPL grid. It was expected that the maximum available capacity from Skeldon would have been available prior to the evening peak demand, GPL said.

Meanwhile, the load shedding guide previously instituted remains in effect until today.

GPL said that the replacement component for the turbocharger of the No 3 diesel generator at Kingston 2 was scheduled to arrive last evening, and arrangements for its immediate installation are in place; this machine was expected to be available by midnight last night.

The No 1 Diesel Generator at the Kingston 1 Plant, GPL said which is undergoing planned major maintenance remains on schedule to return to service on Sunday.
