One mile of Bartica/Issano road completed

Repair work on one mile of road between miles four and five at Bartica/Issano has been completed, according to the Public Works Ministry.

Lawrence Mentis, head of the Force Account Unit of the Ministry of Public Works, was quoted as saying in a Ministry release that the road was filled, graded, shaped and compacted with loam.

He added that work is ongoing on the critical section between miles one and four. “That is 70% completed and we are looking for an October 15, 2014 deadline,” Mentis said.

For those sections, he noted, asphaltic concrete is being used.

Residents of Bartica have frequently complained about the poor state of the road, which has fuelled protests in recent years.

The Ministry also disclosed that 3,000 metres of concrete drains will be constructed along the critical sections and work is expected to commence October 2nd 2014.

It gave the entire cost of the project as $89M.
