Still no word on findings from Qualfon ventilation probe

The Ministry of Labour is yet to make public its findings into the May 20th power failure at the Qualfon Call Centre, at Goedverwagting, which saw more than 18 workers rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital after the facility’s ventilation was inhibited.

Minister of Labour Nanda Gopaul referred Stabroek News to Chief Labour Officer Charles Ogle, who said he hadn’t perused the report and could therefore not relate what the findings were.

Meanwhile, Qualfon, when contacted, stated that it had not received the Ministry of Labour’s report.

On May 20th, Qualfon’s mechanical ventilation system failed to activate following a blackout some 30 minutes after the 4 pm shift commenced. Employees were not evacuated in a timely manner and more than 18 of them had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, some in an unconscious state and others having difficulty breathing. Most were treated and sent away and all eventually returned to their jobs.

The Guyana Fire Service had stated that the workers were affected because of the evacuation efforts were not done in a timely manner.
