Bartica taxi driver accused of filching $1M given to him to buy fuel, food supplies

A Bartica taxi driver was yesterday charged with converting $1M entrusted to him to make purchases to his own use.

It is alleged that on October 7, 2014, Suresh Singh, of First Avenue, Bartica was solely entrusted with $1M by Pamela Hussain to purchase fuel and food but converted the money to his own use and benefit through fraud.

Singh pleaded not guilty to the charge when it     was read it to him by   Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.

Prosecutor Michael Grant had no objections to bail but asked for it to be substantial. Singh was later granted $120,000 bail with the condition that he report to the officer in charge of the Bartica Police Station every Friday at 6 pm. Singh is to report to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on October 16, 2014, which is when his next hearing is scheduled to take place.
