Berbice man beaten, robbed of car

An ANSA McAl Berbice employee was beaten and robbed of his motor vehicle on Monday evening at around 19:00hrs in the vicinity of the East Canje turn on the public road.

Budram Tej called ‘Anil’ 34 of Fort Ordnance housing scheme and formerly of 24 Main Street, Cumberland is currently a patient at the New Amsterdam hospital nursing several injuries including a broken jaw.

Information reaching this newspaper revealed that Tej was driving his Toyota IST motor car PSS 8775 when he was stopped by a man who pretended as if he had an infant in his hands. Tej eventually stopped and picked up the man who said he was going to up to the Corentyne. At that point three other men boarded the car.

The driver of the motor vehicle told investigators from his hospital bed that he stopped at the Guyoil Palmyra service station to purchase fuel and returned to the car. After driving off from the service station he proceeded on the #19 highway, where he was attacked in the dark by his passengers. A stretch of the highway from Seawall village to Fyrish village is without road lights. The area is known for many accidents and high profile crimes at nights.

Following the attack, he was tied up with his shirt. They then threw him into the car trunk.

According to a police source after some distance, Tej felt the car stop and he was thrown out into a trench at Courtland village. The victim managed to lift himself out of the trench. He eventually made his way to the Albion Police Station and reported the matter.
