‘Doctor’ stole girlfriend’s jewellery, phone during tryst – court hears

A Reliance, Essequibo Coast man, who allegedly took his girlfriend’s jewellery, cash and cellular phone and escaped after a tryst was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that Ganesh Lall called ‘Doctor’, a 29-year-old labourer, had arranged a tryst with his girlfriend Nalinee Bhagrathir.

The court was told that on August 16, Lall met up with Bhagrathir and took her to his house at Reliance where they spent some time.

Before the young woman left his residence, the court was told, Lall stole 2 gold bands valued $150,000, a cellular phone valued $15,000 and $8,000 and escaped.

A report was made to the police and Lall was later arrested and charged.

When he appeared in court, Lall was not required to plead to the indictable charge but the Administration of Justice Act was later applied and the case was tried summarily.

Lall was given the chance to plead and a not guilty plea was recorded by Magistrate Scarce.

The man was represented by Attorney Hemraj Rajkumar who asked for reasonable bail.

There were no objections to bail by Prosecutor Haimwant Ramsewak and it was set in the sum of $100,000.

Lall was ordered to return to court on November 11 when the matter is expected to be called again.
