Guyana Defence Force Major, newest member of the Bar

GDF Major Michael Shahoud was admitted to the Bar on October 24 after a successful petition before Justice Brassington Reynolds.

According to a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) press release, Shahoud’s petition was made by Attorney at Law Andrew Pollard to Justice Reynolds, who in accepting said he was well aware of the character of the Major and personally concurred with the statements made in the petition. Further, Justice Reynolds encouraged the young attorney to maintain professional conduct and not to take short cuts.

In accepting, the release said, Shahoud promised to do his best in service to the nation and uphold the high standards required of him.

After obtaining a military scholarship to pursue a Bachelor of Law Degree at the Hugh Wooding Law School, Major Shahoud graduated with a distinction and was also a recipient of the Ann Blue Award for the most outstanding second year student. His educational journey began at St Theresa’s Primary in New Amsterdam, Berbice and continued at St. Margaret’s Primary and the North Georgetown Secondary in Georgetown, the release said.

Currently, Shahoud serves as a Legal Officer in the Legal Services Department at the GDF.
