Huckster remanded over theft of travelling bag, curtains

A huckster was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged with stealing a quantity of items from Yeh-Ming-Feng Trading.

It is alleged on October 27, Winston Letlow of 58 Howes Street, Charlestown, stole one travelling bag valued $1,800 and a quantity of small and large curtains all belonging to Yeh-Ming-Feng Trading.

According to Prosecutor Michael Grant, on the day in question, Letlow, acting as a customer of the store, went in and picked up the items after which he left with them. It was later discovered that the man was leaving with the items without paying. An alarm was raised and the store owner along with public-spirited citizens apprehended him and called the police. Letlow was later arrested and charged.

All of the articles were recovered.

The prosecutor objected to bail based on the fact that Letlow had been charged with several other similar offences and had been thrice convicted. In addition, more charges are likely to be laid against Letlow.

Bail was refused and Letlow is to make his next court appearance on November 10.
